Thai masters massages
Thai massage dates back to the Buddha’s lifetime, around 500 BC. Legend has it that the inventor of Thai massage was Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, a personal healer and disciple of the Buddha. Inspired by yoga, Jivaka developed massage techniques for therapeutic purposes and the exercises that form the basis of Thai massage. Thai massage is closely linked to the Buddhist religion, and was practised in Thailand by monks in temples as a kind of therapy. The emergence of special massage parlours outside temples is, contrary to appearances, not a very old phenomenon.
In Thailand, all life forms are believed to be animated by an invisible energy called prana. Prana circulates in the body through “nadis” – 72 000 energy channels. When the energy is blocked or restricted, imbalances occur, leading to health problems. In order to heal the whole body, including the internal organs, Thai massage focuses on 10 nadis, which are called ‘sen’. In our spa, Thai massages are completed with special short stretching exercises, in the ancient tradition of Thai massage.
